The future of gaming with NFT’s

The word of mouth has so much power and it has recently been showcased in the cryptocurrency industry which I’m sure many of you have heard of even if you ain’t a technology person, it is somewhat the topic to talk about in most workspaces now. However, it is quite a big industry that is filled with many different types of technology the space of cryptocurrencies has a sector called NFT’s. Now I’m sure many of you are probably thinking what does that mean? Well, it’s an abbreviation for a non-fungible token.

As much of a mouthful that sounds the easiest comparison to what an NFT is would be souvenirs and memorabilia, it only holds value to those who admire the art of a sport for example where you could compare the shirt of a famous footballer that you collected at a football match, there are multiple replicas of that player’s name and number jersey however what makes your one special is the player himself handed it to you, the same is done with the ownerships of NFTs, famous rappers like Jay z have created their own NFT in relation to their album covers which fans would adore collecting and own, the artist can then auction the NFT them self and still gain royalties off it the more it is sold down to other owners.

NFT’s all run the Ethereum network which is a well established open-ended decentralized software program it creates smart contracts for the NFT platform to run, one of the first games (Cryptokitties) to try their luck in this world was a collectible cat game where you breed very expensive kittens with unique traits. Take Dragon, a cat that is worth approximately $887k.

Blockchain has been trying to infiltrate the gaming space for a couple of years, most notably with Enjin, a cryptocurrency designed for game developers and players to create, manage, and trade blockchain assets as in-game items and currency.

How could board games be integrated into NFT’s you ask? Well, classical board games such as monopoly could create NFT’s of the playing boards themselves, the iconic layout of the properties in London for example is recognized worldwide.

Classical pieces such as the metal car and dog which is most peoples favorite pieces to play as when playing monopoly, it is something that could apply to any board game an NFT acts as art and memorabilia to those who consider it as a souvenir, so you could have any of your favorite board games characters or unique pieces such as creative looking dice which could be created into a NFT.

NFT’s could potentially do for gamers is provide a limited form of this blockchain item management and ownership for rare in-game items. For game artists, NFTs could allow for individuals to be celebrated like artists working in the traditional art world. So are artists doing something like this and owning all rights to their own work and copyrighting it well no not necessarily the game company that an artist works for usually owns the work that the artist produces. Through NFT’s independent artists could have a feasible shot at the glamour of freelance work, famous game developers will overall help the game industry as a whole, so why wouldn’t famous game artists be any different?
