What did we discover at UK GAMES EXPO?

UK GAMES EXPO was such an honour to attend. Knowing what a disappointment it was that last year was cancelled. However, the peace of mind knowing every attendee is either double vaccinated or tested on entry, meant we could all socialise freely.

Playtest Zone area was really a great part of UKGE. It allowed designers to showcase their prototype board games to the public and gain natural feedback from the players. It gives those without funding and publishing the opportunity for their imagination to be demonstrated, which is what board games are about, the creativity and the fun of playing with family and friends.

Here is a game we tested which was a character card game based game that had points on them,
it’s a great project and has engaging graphics on the card.

Another great platform for those who are game designers and publishers was Speed dating with publishers, it offered the chance for their ideas to be brought to life if any publishers would be enticed by their pitch.

Walking around the event was a great spectacle itself as the national exhibition centre hosts many of the UK’s best events. Walking around we discovered a Viking village that showcased authentic characters in costumes, tents that Vikings would live in and also an act of battle. Below are some highlights of this more can be found on our social media.

The seminars that were on gave us an insight into how the game designers think and produce some of the best game boards we all enjoy playing. From the pieces and characters, they create to the actual boards the games are played on.

Was fascinating to see what goes into the development of board games behind the scenes, it allows the players to learn and view things from the designer’s point of view.

The variety of different board games on sale was what makes the board game world so unique, we saw many different stalls which presented their games with creative characters and boards. We have a variety of different photos and videos capturing all of this.

Another amazing part of gaming events is those who dress up for the occasion in cosplay, we met so many cool popular characters including stormtroopers from Star Wars and Captain America! We created a our TikTok video with all the characters we could find at UKGE.

We had such an amazing time at this event and look forward to attending more in the future. It was very fun to meet other game designers and board game enthusiasts. Networking with others with the same passion as us is always an honour for Ludensa.
